NFL to Premiere Virtual Reality Series This Month
Starting this month — November 24 to be exact — NFL will launch a nine-part video series filmed in 360-degree virtual reality on YouTube, with it expected to make its debut on Google’s Daydream later this year. Using Google Jump’s 360-degree camera and capture system, the first episode will let viewers spend a week with the Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive line, from midweek practices to gameday.
“We are always looking for new ways to engage with our fans. Virtual reality is an emerging platform that enables content experiences with a truly unique vantage point that brings fans closer to the game,” said Vishal Shah, Senior Vice President, Digital Media at the NFL. “It’s an exciting new medium to explore as we look to evolve and grow our offerings, and this partnership with Google is an important step in that direction.”
Future episodes will feature the Miami Dolphins’ cheerleaders, the distinctive football culture in Green Bay, and a unique look inside the San Diego Chargers’ organization, to name a few.
Be sure to head over to the NFL’s YouTube channel on Thanksgiving Day to watch the first over.
